It was a game HIBS needed to win to keep their final chances alive. St Pats Stream offered up their 1st field for the game. The HIBS openers (the Fez and Kobe) had a strong start, scoring 36 runs before the Fez fell (36-1). Kahu then walked out to the crease and got the team to 62 runs before he lost his wicket. Then the unthinkable happened, we had a batting collapse as the score went from 62-2 to 99-9 (Kobe had a strong batting performance, opening the batting and making it through to be the eighth wicket to fall, scoring 46 runs). Then I came out to bat with Harry Watt. Our partnership of 12 runs taking the score to 111-10. We had set a low score that would be hard to defend but at least we had runs on the board.
The lads put together good bowling, fine fielding and a stunning catches including a screamer at first slip. We had St Pats 52-6 at the drinks break (time to inject some much needed sugar……no jet planes for the Fez). Another 2 wickets fell by the 22nd over, putting their score at 70-8. It was coming down to the wire as their 9th wicket fell at 96 runs. The boys fizzed up and took their final wicket 5 balls later. We had won the game by 14 runs thanks to the bowling performances of Fez, C Duff and Watto taking 2 wickets each. Jacobs’s performance at wicket keeper cannot go unrecognised as he took 3 catches behind the wicket. It was a great game from the boys.
Highlight of the game……..Kev (our coach) running onto the field at the end of the game to be with the boys.
