The 9A’s continued their undefeated run this season with a 14 run victory over the No.1 team from Wellington College. This was the boys toughest match in the first half of the year and so it was great to start the second half of the year with a win over them.
Winning the toss and batting at Alexander Park in Newtown the boys scored 193/6 off their 40 overs. Kobe Fleming who opened the innings, scored 85 off 98 balls and shared two 50+ run partnerships with Liam Ferrier (23) and Gerry Green (36 off 37 balls) to build a competitive total.
A direct hit run-out from near the boundary by Campbell Webster got HIBS off to a great start in the field but Tim Robinson who scored 65 off 95 balls had Wellington College in a good position at 143-3 after 32 overs. Harrison Watt (2-32 off 8) then bowled Tim and backed up by pressure created at the other end from Jacob Yee (1-27 off 7) and Kahu Gray (0-14 off 4) HIBS had grabbed the momentum back. Liam Ferrier (1-20 off 5) and Campbell Webster (1-37 off 8) then closed out the match with more tight bowling backed up by some great fielding. Kahu Gray took a great one handed catch and hit the stumps for a run-out and the lads really had their tails up. In the end HIBS took out the match somewhat comfortably by 14 runs to continue their winning ways.
