We didn’t have a good start on a windy day in wellington as (captain) Campbell Webster lost the toss and Wellington College chose to bat hoping to put runs on the board. Hibs opened with Gerry Green and Harrison Watt (Watto) who could not be hit as he bowled five overs four maidens for one run incredible figures from the year 8 spinner. After 10 overs they were 11/1 so we changed up our bowlers and soon they were 11/2 as Kahu got an early wicket into his spell. WC finally got going and their run rate increased including a lost ball down the hill into the bush.
By drinks WC were 80/5 thanks to Kahu’s spell including three wickets. (3-39 off 6). After drinks Kobe (1-5 off 3) and Liam (1-19 off 4) came on for a spell and picked up a wicket each including Liam breaking the stump with his lighting pace. The final bowlers wrapped up the innings in the 33rd over with both Nikunj (2-1 off 2) and Campbell (1-13 off 3) both picking up wickets clearing up the tail end and WC finished with 125 all out.
Then came our turn with our massive openers Jacob Yee and the big man himself Cameron Duffy. They started well and got 23 before Jacob misjudged one and was bowled introducing Charlie to the crease. They made the batting look easy as the runs mounted with their only battle being the running between the wickets which almost cost Cameron his wicket as he managed to run up and down the wicket without scoring a run.
They batted till drinks, bringing the score to 95/1 with Cameron on 36 and Charlie on 20. After drinks with only 31 runs to win they started hitting out, which was Cameron’s downfall just shy of his 50 with 44 runs, well done Cameron. This brought Campbell to the crease who played his usual defence game hitting the second ball he faced for four. Just 6 runs off their total Charlie fell for a well-deserved 32 that brought Nikunj who was unpadded and rushed to put his gear back on jogging onto the field without all his gear on.
Then Campbell came down the wicket to the loopiest spin ball ever seen and spooned the ball straight to cover which brought laughter to both teams and supporters as Campbell was laughed off the pitch. This brought Kobe to the crease to finish the match with Nikunj hitting a four to end it. Hibs won by 6 wickets
