The boys went up to Whanganui on the Saturday and was fizzing for the encounter that was to come on the Sunday. the boys meet their billet hosts, had a feed and got a good sleep. we showed up to the ground and did our typical warm up, with the young-ins taking out the warm up for the first time this year.
We got sent into bat on a pitch that was green and wet, the boys didn’t start to well, with us being 14 for 2, it was understandable that it was going to be a long day. with logan battling at the crease trying to anchor the innings, we knew we needed to build a partnership, that didn’t happen as we were all out for 54 in the 30th over.
Our bowlers started really well, Tyler’s comeback started off really well with a well deserved wicket. a few more wickets had them on the ropes with Matty McComb taking 2 wickets in 2 balls had them 42 for 7, but the last two wickets didn’t come easy, as they put on two major partnerships that lead them to 181 all out at the start of the second day.
On our second innings, the pitch was dried out but still was doing a bit off the seam, where Logan Slee was again in the runs scoring a well deserved 52, a middle order collapse meant that the batsman that were to come had to score some big runs, which they did, Tyler and Daniel got a partnership together and got us to a total of 177 before they both got out, leaving Whanganui to get 51 to win the game.
As all HIBS teams do, we showed a lot of fight in that final innings that took the Whanganui team 25 overs to chase down 51 runs, which was a really good effort. although it was a rough two days for the boys, we are still hyped up to keep our season on track with hopefully another victory against Scots College.
