On a cold day out at Tawa College, the HIBS 1st XI won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a strange wicket. Adam and Harry opened up and were looking comfortable with an opening partnership of 62 before Adam departed for a well batted 43 of 48 balls. That brought Nikunj to the crease however that did not last long as Nikunj was run out for 3. This brought Jesse Tashkoff to the crease and not long after Harry fell for a hard fought 17 of 63 balls. Dan was in next. He was also next to go bringing the skipper to the crease. Caleb and Jesse put on a good little partnership of 42 before Caleb was dismissed with 13 overs to go with a solid base built for the others coming in next to capitalize on. Campbell was now in and then he wasn’t as he fell for a duck. Then in came Cole who with Jesse, capitalized on the base that had been set, putting on 64 in the next 10 overs before Cole was dismissed for a well-played 27 at the score of 185 with 3 overs to go. Jesse was next to go with just one ball left in the innings, scoring a very useful 56 which helped the team to 202/8 off our 50 overs.
After lunch, the boys started off well, getting an early wicket through Nikunj in the second over. Tawa’s next partnership was worth 33 before Nathan got the other opener for a Harry like innings of 8 off 58. The next partnership for Tawa was the important one the put on 50 before Jesse got the break through which was the start of the slump for Tawa as they lost Micah Conroy to a good piece of bowling from Jesse. Then it was their rock to go in Jamie Daniels who made a well-played 56. After that, and 2 more wickets from Nikunj and Brett, Tawa slowly made their way to the 50 over mark 41 runs short of the target giving HIBS the win and cementing our place at the top of the table.
