Weather puts a dampener on the Traditional 2 Day game against Wanganui Collegiate

HIBS, 1st XI 139/10 & 60/4 - 79/10 Wanganui Collegiate, 1st XI
19 Feb 2017 - 11:00HIBS, No 1

Day 1 – Sunday 19th of February 2017.

After a one hour delayed start we were sent into bat. The pitch was always going to be hard to bat on for the first hour or so. Niwa got bowled third ball driving on the up. Adam stuck at it
after being dropped 5 times and battled through to 19 off 40 odd balls. Wickets continued to fall and it was fair to say that the boys got themselves out. We found ourselves 60 for 7 and
we were in big trouble. Campbell walked out to the middle with Nathan and they got a little partnership together which helped us to a first innings total. Campbell ended up on 40 of 104
and we ended up with 139 off 55 overs. We came out and had about 40 minutes to bowl at them. Mac and Nathan opened up and created many chances. A few catches went down but
with about 15 minutes to go Mac broke through. They ended the day on 20 for 1 off 13 overs.

Day 2 – Monday 20th of February 2017.

After a solid first day the boys came out looking for to get Collegiate out and get the W. It started very well with Mac picking up a wicket early on in the game and was backed up by some good bowling by Nathan. Then came on Campbell Webster, the pick of the bowling for the day bowling an incredible 12 overs on the trot and going for only 23 runs with one crucial wicket.

The rain played a big part in the game as we started very late which meant there was not going to be a winner as we bowled Wanganui out for 79 with an hour left in the days play. WHIBSe agreed that we would bat for the rest of the day and things didn’t start off too well as Niwa and Dan both got out for 2 runs a piece, Nikunj chimed in with a good 22 and Harry and Logan were both not out at the end of the day on 13 and 17 respectively. An unfortunate end to the game sees HIBS come away with a draw, but a win from the first innings lead.
